In addition to 15 classic engine test benches, the IFA has a modern hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) test bench, a 4-wheel chassis dynamometer, several component test benches, a 1-cylinder research engine and four CFR test engines.
Engine Test Bench
The 16 engine test benches are all equipped with modern measurement and control systems that allow very flexible to the requirements of each project. Optionally, four test benches are also air conditioned to a temperature of -28°C. Four test stands are equipped with highly dynamic electric machines. So we can realize test cycles inclusive thrust phases directly on the engine test bench. Furthermore, an electric motor is implemented as a HiL testing bench, which allows the simulation of the real conditions from the whole car to the engine. The test benches are designed for a wide range of power and torque levels. The range extends up to 400 kW and 1200 Nm.

The dynamometer allows in addition to examining all-wheel-driven cars and light commercial vehicles, also two-wheel vehicles. An air-conditioning of the test bench up to -32°C and a heating up to 60°C is possible. The dynamometer is certified by TÜV and the KBA (Federal Motor Transport Authority) registered for approvals. Therefore the 4-wheel-chassis dynamometer can be used for research projects and the preparation of reports and approval notices. In addition to the classic research projects where classical combustion engines are measured and optimized, there is also the possibility of alternative drive concepts, such as to study hybrid or pure electric vehicles. Projects may include vehicle fuel consumption, exhaust emissions, the energy balance of electric vehicles and the efficiency analysis of electrical components.

Component test bench
In research projects, the focus of work is not only the whole internal combustion engine. Also individual components of the engines or the drivetrain components, like the gearbox or electric motors, maybe interested for investigations. In order to evaluate these components the IFA has own test benches.
Component development and manufacturing of prototypes
In our workshop at the IFA many components can be produced and edited even for test bench operation. The development and production of our own prototypes for various projects can be realized. This enables a very high degree of flexibility in project implementation.
