Transmission development

With respect to the actual CO2 discussion the requirements for the transmission as the main link between combustion engine and vehicle becomes more and more important today. To satisfy the public demand for affordable vehicles with a low fuel consumption also leads to an intensive transmission development considering the application with focus on gear ratio and shifting quality. In addition, comfort aspects will be influenced by the transmission as well.

The transmission development at the Institute for Powertrains and Automotive Technology at the TU Vienna concentrates on the software development for automated transmissions. Therefore, a test bench (picture) was designed to test the transmission as a stand-alone system.

In addition, the basic functions of the different actuators for clutch and gear shift could be developed with this test bench and the corresponding software. The regulation of driveaway and gear shift states could be modified and applied basically.

This fundamental development supports and accelerates the final transmission adjustment in combination with the combustion engine. This basic investigation helps to keep Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) configurations or vehicle applications more effective.
